PLU labels for Australian Mangoes


Implementation of Mango PLU labels to incorporate GS1 DataBar for loose product traceability and scannability.

This coming season, in line with other loose produce categories, major retailers including Woolworths, Coles and Metcash (IGA) are asking their Australian mango suppliers to collaborate on the implementation of a more defined PLU label incorporating DataBars.

As the adoption of price look-up (PLU) codes gain further traction in the produce industry, the IFPS has committed to transitioning the previously unused prefix '8' to accommodate an increase in varieties of fresh produce items as they enter the market. Please refer to the press release (English, Spanish and French) for further information. Additional information can also be found in this article which is an extract from the October 2015 Fresh Magazine issue published by PMA.

Members of the produce industry active within the Quebec marketplace are expected to meet certain requirements relative to language and labeling. Faced with the need to have an official translation of PLU nomenclature available for produce labeling, the Canadian Produce Marketing Association (CPMA) and Quebec Produce Marketing Association (QPMA) facilitated the translation of the PLU list to meet the needs of their respective memberships. The list translates the English produce PLU list into French.
