East refers to items grown east of the Mississippi River in the U.S. or east of the Ontario/Manitoba border in Canada.

West refers to items grown west of the Mississippi River in the U.S. or west of the Ontario/Manitoba border in Canada (unless otherwise noted viz APPLES, GRAPEFRUIT, ORANGES)

NB refers to all items grown outside N. America (i.e., Rest of World [ROW]) irrespective of whether it is exported to N. America, or elsewhere worldwide, or sold within national borders and must be used:

  • where only one number is provided, use that number

  • where "East" and "West" are both provided, use the ""West" number

It is most important that produce items exported from outside N. America (i.e., ROW) are coded with the appropriate "West" number.
